Adult Gymnastics

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

I quit gymnastics to go into performing some years ago now.  But the flame still burns within me, and i LOVE gymnastics still.  I am just really lucky that since I finished on LND I have been able to train in the gymnastics centres (Camden and East London) regularly because London is GREAT for Adult Gymnastics.

I am currently being persuaded into doing the British Veterans Championships.  At first I was divided whether to do it or not.  I am in the 19-30 age category.  At age 28 I haven’t been over a vault in years and years due to my sheer dislike/fear of it.  A 19/20yr old is often still very fresh from competitive gymnastics.  I kind of feel the age category should be 19-24 and 25-30.  But anyway, not wanting to compete against a 19/20 yr old, and thinking about the fact I only have 3 months to try and prepare and get back some skills and get the stamina to put them into a routine, i didn’t want to do the competition.  But then I thought… you need to take each opportunity that you can.  If I put it off this year to try and get better for next year then what if i can’t do it next year or ever for whatever reason.  I don’t expect to win individually this year, i don’t really even expect to medal, but I expect to do the best that I can do, and prove to myself I can compete certain skills.  Yes my criteria for entering the competition is to get or get back certain skills, and to compete safe secure routines, then if I get the opportunity to do it again next year I can work on improving on this year (though I do still secretly wish i could win lol).  So from here-on I am working my little arse off, as I write this my stomach muscles are aching as yesterday i trained quite hard.

And if nothing else then at least I have a killer beam mount thanks to my handstanding abilities! And also it may get my belly looking very toned again and a good butt, all important when im trying to look good in life!

June

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Well, as June draws to a close I have had a really busy and happy month.

Gigs have been going well, and this week I am also very busy.  I have mainly been in London this month for quite a few gigs, apart from Nottingham for a really interesting gig for Capital One.  Below are two pictures of me at the 25th anniversary party for Camden based tattoo parlour Evil From the Needle.

Also in June: I have been in the gymnastics centre more than i have for a long time, i even went on vault for the first time in years!

My landlord sold the house I rent, so after a very panicked search where I nearly lost all hope then I found a nice flat to rent just around the corner from my current house in Finsbury Park.

Last week I demonstrated a one arm handstand back and pike through to russian lever mount on the beam for the young gymnasts that I teach.

This week I was given this by one of the gymnasts :
